1. Computer Questions

1.1  What are the computer system requirements for Insurancelink.ca's courses?
Insurancelink.ca courses work with almost any computer on the Internet. We recommend the following minimum system: Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT, 2000, or Mac OS X (any version). If you can comfortably run any of these these, you're fine. You must have a 256-color display (or better) with 800x600 minimum resolution. That's any computer built in the last eight or ten years. We also support other operating systems such as Apple's friendly Mac OS X and Ubuntu Linux.

A 56kbps modem is the minimum requirement. For the best and fastest user experience, you are encouraged to use a high-speed DSL or cable modem service. If you can view our demo, you've already got everything you need.

Speakers to hear our voice-narrated course instruction would be most beneficial. :) You can also use headphones.

Browsers: all modern web browsers are supported. Internet Explorer 5.0 is the minimum requirement, and IE 5.5, 6, 7, and 8 are all supported (with free upgrades from Microsoft). The use of the most recent browser is highly recommended due to our extensive use of the latest CSS (cascading style sheets) technology, for the best visual experience possible. If you prefer to use an even more advanced browser, such as the latest versions of Mozilla Firefox, Opera, or Apple's Safari, we fully support those browsers too.

1.2  Do I need any additional software application loaded on my company's desktops to use the applications or the courses?
No, everything you need is already on your computer. We believe the Internet should be accessible by everyone.
1.3  Can I take these courses on my Macintosh computer?
Yes, absolutely. We support our courses on the Macintosh platform as well. Apple's OS X is a delightful system to use.
1.4  Can I sign on to the courses from another computer?
Yes, and this is one of the many nice features of working with insurancelink.ca courses. Whether you're at work or at home, you have full access our courses. You simply use the same login and password wherever you are.
1.5  I'm going on holidays to Hawaii for three weeks. Can I sign on to the courses from my beachfront cottage?
Yes, and this is an excellent idea -- but you must agree to buy the person who wrote this FAQ section one of those fancy drinks with an umbrella. :) We understand that you are likely to get tired of the beautiful and tranquil scenery offered by Hawaii (or perhaps Mexico), and that looming guilt about bettering yourself will lead you to taking courses on your vacation ... point, click, listen and learn! Aloha.
1.6  What type of computer knowledge is required to do this?
You don't need to know very much about computers to use our service. We have gone to great lengths to make it easy to use! If you are comfortable with pointing-and-clicking on a website like this one, you have everything it takes to register for our courses. We also provide full email support to assist you in this process on an as needed basis. If you're having any problems, contact us and we'll be glad to help you.
1.7  I don't see anything happening on my screen?
If your computer or any of our courses have stopped responding, double-check that your Internet connection is still active. To do this, simply click Reload or Refresh in your browser and see if that makes a difference. If you still cannot view our courses, perhaps you should reboot your computer and connect to the Internet again. Please contact us if you're still experiencing difficulties. While we can't diagnose every possible problem to do with your computer, we'll do our best to get you running again.
1.8  Can I take Insurancelink.ca courses without speakers?
You sure can, although it won't be the same experience for you. Our narrated courses are a big selling feature for us. We have timed the audio with the visual component of each slide and this makes having even the most basic speakers appealing. Just try it out.

If you can't use speakers in your office due to an open office environment, consider wearing a pair of headphones. We believe the voice and audio components of our courses are a real pleasure to listen to.

1.9  How can I make my browser go faster?
The best way to make it go faster is by improving your Internet connection speed. If you have a modem, it's not much more to get a cable or DSL modem. If you've already done that, giving your computer a little boost with some more RAM (it's very inexpensive nowadays). If you cannot afford that or don't want to open your computer, you can simply close down all other programs except your browser to have the fastest experience. Your connection speed and the amount of memory your computer has will make the biggest difference.

2. Site Questions

2.1  What should I do if I registered but I can't access it?
If you have paid for our service, we will do everything we can to help you use it. But please refer to our Minimum System Requirements before signing up, and read the Frequently Asked Questions, like you're doing right now. You're on the right track. Contact us with your pre-sales concerns.
2.2  I've forgotten my username or password. Now what?!
That's easy. Try to login anyway. You'll be taken to a page where you can enter either your username (if you remember it) or even just your email address. Either way, we'll email your password to you within a few minutes of your request.
2.3  Are there any computer "cookie" settings that need to be set before I undertake the Insurancelink.ca courses?
No. You don't have to worry about "cookies", an often misunderstood technology. On this site we do make use of cookies to enhance your experience, and make it easier to use. This is something you want.
2.4  Are there any special display settings that I need to set before I take your courses?
For optimal clarity, we suggest viewing the site at 800 x 600 resolution with 16-bit color or higher. Usually the settings that your computer came with are more than adequate.
2.5  What kind of security features do you provide?
insurancelink.ca was designed and tested by using the pinnacle of industry security. We run a pure Unix environment and we take the security of your private information very seriously. At the bottom of every page are links to our security, privacy, and legal policies as proof of our commitment to you. Any information you give us is held with the utmost care and security, and will NEVER be sold, rented, or loaned to any third party without your prior consent (and even seeking that is unlikely).
2.6  Is the personal data that I provide you secure?
Yes, absolutely. Please see our security, privacy, and legal policies for more information. Among many technologies, we use Secure sockets layer (SSL) and a proven Digital Certificate from a tier-1 provider. This SSL and Public Key Infrastructure technology, which uses Digital Certificates, is the industry standard for secure commerce transactions. It has been approved for Government use in Canada -- clearly the technology is safe.

During the purchase process, SSL encrypts all of your personal information including credit card number, name, and address, so that it cannot be read as the information passes across the Internet. All of your records are stored in a secured database. We track the completion status of each course with this information being stored for five years.

To purchase a subscription, simply click here and fill in the blanks. You will need a major credit card to make your purchase.
3.2  What courses do I need to take to renew my license?
Each provincial insurance regulator maintains a list of their own license renewal requirements. Insurancelink.ca does not provide nor does it have access to any provincial insurance regulator database.

However, in an effort to help you out, here are some convenient links to your provincial regulators:

Insurance Council of British Columbiahttp://www.insurancecouncilofbc.com
Alberta Insurance Councilhttp://www.abcouncil.ab.ca/
Saskatchewan General Insurance Councilhttp://www.insurancecouncils.sk.ca/default.htm
Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontariohttp://www.ribo.com/
Financial Services Commission of Ontariohttp://www.ontarioinsurance.com/
3.3  Do you have a Refund Policy?
Yes, and we don't normally issue refunds. We offer a quality product and simply ask that you please read through our website, review our course catalogue and understand what we offer before pulling out your credit card. We'll reward you with great support in turn.
3.4  How can I confirm my course purchase?
As soon as you make a subscription purchase at the Insurancelink.ca sign-up page, an email will reach you within an hour confirming your purchase. This email will indicate your order number, name of the product purchased and amount you paid. You can use this receipt as proof of payment, and for your expense purposes. If you ever lose your receipt, simply contact us and we'll send you another copy.
3.5  Where can I get help in making my online purchase of these courses?
Actually, it's surprisingly easy to purchase by credit card! And you can rest assured that our service is safe to us. Please read through these FAQs to answer questions you may have about purchasing.
3.6  How soon after buying a course subscription will I be able to use the courses?
Immediately. As soon as you finish the payment process, we will email you a confirmation of your username, password and your receipt. After that, you will be able to access all of the Insurancelink.ca courses.
3.7  What if I am not finished taking the courses after one year?
You may renew your membership or re-subscribe at that time. You will be sent a reminder e-mail with re-subscription instructions well in advance before your subscription expiry.
3.8  What if I want to buy through credit card, but not over the Internet?
We understand that when you shop online you might feel a little uneasy... but it's generally unwarranted. Your credit card security is our highest priority, our servers use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), an advanced encryption technology that works well with all Internet browsers. All employees of insurancelink.ca regularly make purchases through the Internet for their own use. The encryption we use makes it absolutely impossible for unauthorized parties to read any information that you send us.
3.9  I'm still not sure about using my credit card over the the Internet. How secure is this process?
All the major banks in Canada have online banking, which is far more of a risk than simply making purchases through the Internet. If you've never made a purchase on the Internet before, you have to try it sometime... you'll be pleasantly surprised how easy and secure it really is! We conform to a high security standard and since 2004 have never had a single issue with security and processing credit cards online.
3.10  I don't have a credit card. May I pay by check or money order?
Sorry, you must use a credit card to purchase a subscription. Purchase orders for major brokerages and insurance companies who wish to purchase more than 50 memberships at one time can be arranged by contacting us.
3.11  What if I want to cancel my subscription early?
Insurancelink.ca charges for a yearly subscription and all subscription are valid for a year from the date of purchase. Since you have already paid for the subscription, you always complete the courses earlier than a year from the purchase.
3.12  Which credit cards can I use?
We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards.

4. Course questions

4.1  How long do I have to complete the courses?
All courses in the purchased subscription must be completed within one year of the date of purchase. Our courses are continually updated with new courses being added regularly.
4.2  What licenses does Insurancelink.ca currently serve?
Currently, Insurancelink.ca has courses to meet the complete Continuing Education requirements for General Insurance, Adjusters, Life Insurance and Accident Sickness licenses.
4.3  Do you offer delivery for my insurance certificate after each course completion?
We can do one better than that: Your certificate can be emailed to you directly so that you can print it for your files immediately! But most people prefer to simply print the graphical certificate that appears when you complete the course.
4.4  What score do I need to pass the test and earn my course credit?
In most cases, there is no minimum score required by the provincial insurance regulators. We believe that you will find our quizzes to be a good review of the course presentation you have enjoyed. We do not print your score on the certificate of course completion, but we do retain this score in our database in case it is ever needed.
4.5  Can I start a lesson at work and complete it at home?
Yes, and it's very easy to do. Once you start a course it will appear in the "In Progress" box when you login to your account. You simply click on the course to resume where you left off.
4.6  How do I submit a new course idea to Insurancelink.ca?
Excellent idea. We are constantly developing new courses and materials, and we welcome your ideas. Contact us and we'll get back to you with our thoughts!
4.7  Who writes the courses?
Content Experts, who are established professionals in the insurance, academic and business communities, write our courses. They are formally recruited on the basis of their professional credentials and practical experience at a working level in a cross-section of organizations. They have spent at least 12-15 years as functional managers, management development professionals, or consultants. The Content Experts also have extensive academic experience and credentials.
4.8  Can I take the course more than once?
Yes. Each subscription option gives you unlimited access to the course(s) you purchase during the subscription period. This unlimited access enables you to further develop and retain your skills. However, you will only get credit for completing the course once.
4.9  Can I leave in the middle of a course and come back to where I left off?
Yes. If you have to leave a course, simply click on the screen you were at before leaving and continue your course. Insurancelink.ca has made it very easy for you to complete your courses. If you would like to review any slide, simply pick and click on it from the display in the left hand column. Interruptions are the norm in our industry!
4.10  Are Insurancelink.ca courses approved for continuing education credits?
Yes. Our courses are approved and registered with the provincial insurance regulators of B.C., AB, SK, MB, and ON. We are looking to provide courses for Quebec as well, but that will take us some time to complete the necessary translations. Note that some provinces do not have provincially set requirements at this time.
4.11  Can I take Insurancelink.ca courses for continuing education credits even though my profession is not listed?
Yes. Since several provincial insurance regulators have approved our courses, we have already met and complied with many standard requirements for continuing education providers. Therefore, it is possible, though not guaranteed, that we already meet the approval criteria for your profession as well.

Some professional associations will let you take interactive, online courses that comply with nationally recognized standards, and then submit materials to be approved on an individual, case-by-case basis. It is your responsibility to know the continuing education requirements for your profession, if it is not listed, and to complete your credit requirements through providers that are approved by your professional association or meet their approval criteria.

4.12  How many credit hours do I get for completing a course?
This is one of the best parts of how Insurancelink.ca has set up courses:

1 course = 1 credit hour

4.13  Do the continuing education courses have tests?
Yes. We have review questions throughout the presentation. There is a 20 to 25 question review quiz that you will need to complete before you can obtain your certificate of completion for a course. There is no minimum provincial score that you must achieve to pass the tests.
4.14  Can I reprint the Certificate of Completion for a course that I have already completed?
You can reprint a Certificate of Completion for a course after you have completed it and passed the test. Simply access the Certificate of Completion from your login page and click on the "reprint" button to make copies now or months from now. This is a great feature when it's the end of the year and you've lost your previously printed certificates. :)
