CE Requirements for RIBO
Our courses are separated into Technical, Management and Personal categories as required by RIBO (the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario). Not all of our courses are approved by RIBO, but the majority are. Please read the detailed course descriptions to determine eligibility. You can easily sign up and take courses from the comfort of your home or office chair. Since we started operations in 2004 we have not had a single issue with Ontario customers not receiving credit for CE courses taken from insurancelink.ca. Quite the contrary, we often receive emails from our customers telling us how convenient our services are, and how much they liked taking our courses for credit versus the alternative of traditional in-person seminars.
RIBO publishes a Continuing Education summary document (2011/2012 version) that clearly explains the CE requirements in Ontario. Here is a brief summary:
- Principal Brokers and Deputy Principal Brokers require 10 hours of continuing education credits per year between October 1st and September 30th. A minimum of 5 hours must be in the Management category. The remaining hours may be in the Management or Technical category. There is a carryover of a maximum of 10 hours (or one term’s requirements) allowed for the next term.
- All other licensed individuals require 8 hours of continuing education credits every year between October 1st and September 30th in any category. There is a carryover of a maximum of 8 hours (or one term’s requirements) allowed for the next term.
- Newly licensed individuals should understand that the continuing education program of 8 hours every year between October 1st and September 30th will begin the first October following registration. Individuals are exempted for the remainder of the licence year that they were registered.
The Reasonable Man and Damages (General, P&C version)
In The Reasonable Man and Damages", you will learn about torts, negligence, cause (both actual and proximate) and the various types of damages that can be awarded to resolve disputes of tort and negligence. As well, you will learn how various cases such as Donoghue v. Stevenson (1932), Blythe v. Birmingham (1856) and other cases up to 1990 have increased and clarified our view of what is a Reasonable Man in the courts. This technical course is approved in all provinces for all types of licences, except Manitoba and Alberta. Approved in Manitoba for General only as course # 17437.
